3 Day Inca Jungle Trek Itinerary

Day 1 - Cusco - Santa Maria - Santa Teresa

We will begin our first day of the 3 Day Inca Jungle Trek with an early morning departure from Cusco. Our journey will take us along winding roads through the picturesque Sacred Valley, where we will ascend to the Abra Malaga Pass at an altitude of 4,316 meters (14,160 feet). Here, we will pause briefly to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. 

As we descend from Abra Malaga, the landscape will transform dramatically. We will leave the arid highlands behind and enter the lush jungle. Our next stop will be the small town of Santa Maria.

From here, we will embark on an exhilarating mountain biking adventure. We will ride down winding trails, surrounded by dense vegetation and stunning natural beauty. The ride will be filled with excitement, as we navigate both paved and dirt roads, experiencing the thrill of the descent.

After our biking adventure, we will arrive in Santa Maria, where we will have the option to refresh ourselves with a meal. We will also have the chance to take part in an optional white-water rafting experience on the Urubamba River, where we will navigate the exhilarating rapids. In the evening, we will rest in a local guesthouse in Santa Maria, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Throughout the day, we will cover a considerable distance. We will be gradually descending from the high altitude of Abra Malaga to the warmer climate of the jungle. Day 2 - Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes

On the second day of the Inca Jungle Trek 3 Days, we will set out early from Santa Teresa. We will be ready for a day filled with exploration and adventure. The trail will lead us through the lush jungle, where we will be surrounded by the vibrant flora and fauna of the region. 

As we walk, we will pass through small villages, allowing us to interact with locals and learn about their way of life. The trail will also take us past coffee plantations and fruit orchards, where we might pause to sample some fresh local produce.

As we continue our trek, we will reach a series of hot springs. Here we can relax and soak in the warm, mineral-rich waters. This will be a perfect opportunity to unwind and rejuvenate our muscles before continuing our journey.

After a refreshing break, we will continue our hike towards the Hydroelectric Station. We will have the option to either hike or take a short train ride to Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.

Upon reaching Aguas Calientes, we will check into our accommodation and have time to explore this charming town nestled in the mountains. In the evening, we will gather for a group dinner, where we can share stories of the day’s adventures and prepare for the final leg of our journey to Machu Picchu.

On the final day of the Inca Jungle Trek 3 Days, we will rise early in Aguas Calientes to begin our ascent to Machu Picchu. As the sun begins to rise, we will catch our first glimpse of the ancient citadel, bathed in the soft morning light. The climb will be challenging, but the reward will be unparalleled views of Machu Picchu Mountain and the surrounding valleys.

You will also have the option of embarking on a bus ride from Aguas Calientes. The 30 minute ride needs to be booked in advance and costs 12 USD.

Machu Picchu Guided Tour:

Once we arrive at the entrance to Machu Picchu, we will begin a guided tour of the site. Our expert guide will take us through the intricate stone structures, terraces, and temples, sharing the history and significance of this UNESCO World Heritage site. We will explore the Sacred Plaza, the Temple of the Sun, and the Intihuatana Stone, among other notable sites. After the tour, we will have the option to hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for even more stunning views of the area. This hike will require additional time and energy, but the panoramic views will be well worth the effort. We will then return to Aguas Calientes. Here we will have time to relax and enjoy a meal before catching the train back to Cusco.

As we make our way back to Cusco, we will have time to reflect on the incredible journey we have just completed.
